Living in Colorado comes with a lot of pressure to be an outdoorsy person. Hiking every weekend, owning all the gear, casually climbing a mountain before breakfast… you get it. But what if that’s just not you?
Your engagement session doesn’t have to involve hiking boots and a trailhead just because you’re taking photos in Colorado. There are SO many ways to plan a Colorado engagement session that still takes advantage of where we live without making you spend the evening doing something you’d never normally do. So if you love the views but would rather admire them without hiking three miles first, this one’s for you!
Go for the Mountain Views Without the Hike
You can absolutely have mountains in the background of your engagement photos without making your session an entire outdoor excursion.
There are plenty of places around Colorado where we can get beautiful views with easy access. We can find a spot where you can park nearby, walk around, take photos, and still get all of that Colorado scenery you were hoping for. You get the mountains. You don’t have to become a hiker overnight. Everybody wins!
Spend the Evening in Denver
Maybe the mountains aren’t what you picture for your engagement photos at all. That’s completely fine too. Denver has so many fun options for engagement sessions, especially if you want something that feels a little more like your everyday life. We can walk around downtown, find some cool architecture, grab a drink, stop somewhere you love, and basically just hang out while taking photos along the way. If a normal date night for you involves dinner and drinks instead of a trail, why not lean into that?
Grab Coffee or Drinks Together
Starting your session somewhere like a coffee shop, brewery, or bar is one of my favorite ways to make the whole thing feel less intimidating. Instead of immediately thinking, “Okay, what do I do with my hands?” you have something to do. You can order your favorite drinks, sit together, talk, laugh, and get used to having a camera around. Then we can head outside afterward for a completely different look.
Explore a Colorado Mountain Town
This is such a good middle ground if you want your photos to feel like Colorado but don’t want to spend the day hiking. Pick a mountain town, walk around together, grab something to eat, explore a little, and take photos along the way. You still get the mountain scenery, but the session feels more like a date than an adventure you had to train for. And we can always find a scenic spot nearby for a few more traditional engagement photos too.
Do Something You’d Actually Do Together
This is probably the biggest thing I want couples to think about when planning their engagement session. What do you actually like doing together?
Maybe you’re always trying new restaurants. Maybe you have a favorite coffee shop. Maybe you love wandering around bookstores, going out for ice cream, taking your dog everywhere, or spending Friday nights at home with pizza. Your engagement photos don’t have to look like anyone else’s. In fact, they’re usually way more fun when they don’t.
Keep It Simple
You also don’t need three locations, two outfit changes, props, or a huge plan. Sometimes the best option is choosing one place you love and spending the evening there together. We’ll walk around, find different spots as we go, and give you plenty of variety without making your engagement session feel like a production. I’ll help with location ideas, timing, and all of those little details beforehand, so you don’t have to figure everything out on your own.
Your Colorado Engagement Session Can Look However You Want
Being in Colorado doesn’t automatically mean your engagement photos have to involve a mountain hike. If you want to hike somewhere incredible, I am 100% down. But if you’d much rather grab a drink downtown and find a mountain overlook we can basically drive up to? I’m just as excited about that.
Your engagement session is a chance to document the two of you during a really fun season of life. Pick something that actually sounds like a good time to you, and we’ll build your session from there. And if your only request is, “We want pretty Colorado views, but please don’t make us hike,” I can definitely work with that!
At the end of the day, your engagement session should feel like something you’d actually enjoy doing together. You don’t have to be the most outdoorsy couple to have amazing engagement photos in Colorado.
