What an Elopement Day Actually Looks Like

What an Elopement Day Actually Looks Like

When couples start thinking about eloping, one of the most common questions they ask is what the day will actually look like. Most people have only experienced traditional weddings, where the timeline is packed and the day moves really fast. Elopements are different. They are slower, more personal, and focused on the experience the two of you want to have together.

As a Colorado elopement photographer, I have photographed days that start before sunrise in the mountains and others that end with sunset vows overlooking alpine lakes. Every elopement is different, but they all have one thing in common. The day is built around the couple, not a schedule.

Starting the Day

Most elopement days start in a relaxed way. Couples might be getting ready in a cabin in the mountains or at an Airbnb with a view. Instead of rushing through hair, makeup, and a long list of things to do, the morning usually feels calm.

Some couples get ready together while others get ready separately and see each other for the first time during a first look. Both options are great. It really just depends on what feels most natural for you.

This part of the day is usually quiet and meaningful. Writing vows, drinking coffee, helping each other with final details, and taking a few minutes to slow down before heading out.

Heading to Your Ceremony Location

A lot of Colorado elopements include some kind of exploring. That could mean driving up a mountain pass, walking to a scenic overlook, or hiking to a lake. It does not have to be a big hike unless you want it to be.

Some couples want a short walk with incredible views while others want a longer adventure to somewhere more secluded. Either way, the goal is not to rush. We take our time, stop along the way for photos, and enjoy the experience of being in a place that feels special.

The Ceremony

This is usually the most meaningful part of the day. Most elopement ceremonies are small and simple. Sometimes it is just the two of you. Other times couples invite a few close family members or friends.

You might exchange vows at sunrise with no one else around or during sunset with the mountains behind you. Without a large crowd or a formal setup, the ceremony tends to feel very personal. Couples can take their time, say what they want to say, and actually be present in the moment.

After the Ceremony

Once the ceremony is finished, the day does not have to end. This is one of the best parts about eloping. You have the freedom to decide what the rest of the day looks like.

Some couples celebrate with champagne and take in the view. Others explore another location for photos or go back to their cabin for a relaxed evening together. Some couples go out to dinner in a mountain town while others end the day watching the sunset or sitting around a fire.

Your wedding day can feel more like a full experience instead of a short event.

Photos Throughout the Day

During the entire day, I am documenting what is happening naturally. That includes the big moments like your vows, but also the smaller moments that happen in between. Laughing on the trail, holding hands while walking to the ceremony spot, or just taking in the view together.

Those are the moments that help you remember what the day actually felt like.

Every Elopement Looks Different

There is no single way an elopement day has to look. Some are adventurous with hiking and exploring. Others are quiet and simple with just a short walk to a beautiful view.

The best part about eloping is that you get to create a wedding day that actually feels like you. If that means getting married somewhere in the Colorado mountains with just the two of you, that is exactly what the day can be.

my story continues here

For me, photography isn’t just my job. It is my passion and purpose. I’m drawn to the beauty of genuine connection, the way your head rests gently on your spouse’s shoulder, how you throw your head back and laugh as your best friend gives their speech, and the way your parents cry during your vows.

The little things. The tiny details. The things you never, ever want to forget, captured in honest, true-to-life colors that don’t just document the way things look, but the way they feel.

Chapter 03.

From slow dancing at sunset to laughing so hard your makeup starts to run, my goal is to document your wedding day in a way that feels like you.
