Emily + Drew were looking for an epic location for their engagement session and the Sand Dunes proved to be the perfect spot for them!
Emily + Drew’s Playful Engagement Session at the Great Sand Dunes National Park
Emily inquired about a session at the Sand Dunes which was on my bucket list of locations to shoot at, so I was OVER THE MOON excited to shoot this location.
If you book a location on my bucket list then I will give you a discount on travel fees!
Things to know before booking a session here:
– Did you know that these sand dunes are the tallest in the continent!?
-It takes TIME to walk from the parking lot to the actual sand dunes. And walking in the sand is no joke. The starting elevation is just under 8,000 ft, and goes up to 13k! So this is really an adventure session location!
-Piggy backing off of the adventure session – You can sand board down the dunes. My sister did this while I was in session and said it was so much fun!! (Let’s plan a sand boarding adventure session together ;))
-The park is also dog friendly and one of the few in the country that allow dogs (Check out Benny in the gallery, he was so precious)
-The weather can be extreme during certain times of the year. Summer can bring hot sand and hot temps and in the winter you’ll even see snow! Spring and Fall tend to be the best times here!
-A photo permit is required to shoot here. We can go over everything you need to know while planning!
-It can be very windy here, so be prepared for that! (Additional fun fact! This is how the sand dunes were formed!)
-And you are allowed to camp overnight in the dunes. It’s even said that you can see the Milky Way at night here. (I’d love to experience this one day!!) and if aren’t into the whole camping thing, the nearest spots to stay at are about an hour and a half away!
