The flat irons are such an iconic view when visiting the Denver area but did you know you can have your pick of views of them? I’m sharing 4 spots in Boulder, Colorado with 4 different perspectives of the flat irons!
My go-to locations when looking to have photos taken in the Denver area – specifically Boulder, Colorado!

- South Mesa Trailhead
- Chatauqua Park
- Rocky Flats
All of these locations have 2 things in common – lots of space to frolic and beautiful views of the flat irons!
Let’s go into a little detail!
Flat Irons Vista Trailhead
If you’re looking for a simple and minimalistic photo backdrop, that also happens to be very easy to get to, then I’d highly suggest the Flatirons Vista Trailhead fields in Boulder, Colorado! With rolling hills and views of the Flatirons, this spot is BREATHTAKING.
South Mesa Trailhead
Located in Southwest Boulder this spot is beautiful at all times of year. Expect vibrant greens in May-August, Wildflowers in July-August, and dreamy fall foliage in October. Even in the dead of winter, this spot is stunning with golden grass and big mountain views. Check out more of this session here!
Chautauqua Park
This popular park in Boulder showcases some of the best views of the flat irons. Grassy fields lead to many different trails where you can see plenty of mountain views, and even wildflowers during certain summer months. Plus it is an easy 2-10 minute walk from the parking lot. This park can be crowded but has lots of walking space to find privacy.
Rocky Flats
This is such an underrated location in Boulder! I love it for its airy – openness. It has lots of space to run around with distant views of the flat irons! This meadow is very flat and 2 minutes from the parking lot, making it easily accessible. This spot is great if you want the flat irons but are looking for more privacy as this spot has minimal foot traffic. In the summer you get pretty greens and in the winter you get golden/orangey grass like seen above!
