A Guide For Planning Your Winter Wedding in Colorado

A Guide For Planning Your Winter Wedding in Colorado

Winter weddings in Colorado have a charm all their own, but they do require a bit more planning than weddings in warmer months. As a Colorado wedding photographer, I’ve had the privilege of documenting winter weddings in everything from cozy lodges to snow-covered mountain trails. Over the years, I’ve learned what makes these weddings successful and enjoyable for couples and their guests alike!

Choosing the Right Venue

One of the first things to consider is your venue. Outdoor ceremonies can look stunning with a snowy backdrop, but cold temperatures and unpredictable weather often make indoor spaces more practical. Lodges, ballrooms, and inns provide warmth and comfort for your guests while still offering such a beautiful setting that complements the season!

If you want to include outdoor moments, look for venues with flexible indoor-outdoor options. That way, you have a backup plan if the weather doesn’t cooperate.

Planning Around Daylight

Colorado winters mean shorter days, so timing is key. Late morning or early afternoon ceremonies work well, allowing for plenty of natural light for photos and keeping guests comfortable! As a photographer, I usually photograph your portraits immediately after the ceremony to make the most of the light.

Keeping Guests Comfortable

Guest comfort is essential during winter weddings. Offering warm drinks like coffee, tea, or hot chocolate is a simple way to keep everyone cozy and it makes a cute wedding decor piece. Fireplaces or portable heaters make outdoor cocktail hours much more enjoyable.

Preparing for Weather

Weather in Colorado can be unpredictable, so always have a backup plan. Snowy conditions can make for magical photos, but you’ll want indoor options if it gets too extreme. Vendors should be prepared for colder temperatures, icy roads, and travel challenges.

It’s also helpful to inform guests ahead of time about travel conditions, parking, and nearby accommodations. Planning for weather reduces stress and keeps the day running smoothly.

Why a Winter Wedding Can Be Perfect

Winter weddings have some unique advantages. Venues and vendors often have more availability during the off-season, and smaller guest lists create a more intimate celebration. Snowy landscapes, cozy indoor moments, and seasonal decor can make your wedding photos truly special.

Winter weddings in Colorado require a little extra planning, but they’re worth it. From snowy mountain portraits to warm indoor weddings filled with laughter and candlelight, winter weddings create memories that last a lifetime!

my story continues here

For me, photography isn’t just my job. It is my passion and purpose. I’m drawn to the beauty of genuine connection, the way your head rests gently on your spouse’s shoulder, how you throw your head back and laugh as your best friend gives their speech, and the way your parents cry during your vows.

The little things. The tiny details. The things you never, ever want to forget, captured in honest, true-to-life colors that don’t just document the way things look, but the way they feel.

Chapter 03.

From slow dancing at sunset to laughing so hard your makeup starts to run, my goal is to document your wedding day in a way that feels like you.
