If you’ve been dreaming about a colorado wedding or elopement that feels straight out of a movie, wide open mountain views, lakes, golden trees, and sunsets that take your breath away, Colorado is where it’s at. One of my favorite things about being a wedding and elopement photographer is getting to help couples find the perfect backdrop for their love story. And honestly? There are so many jaw-dropping spots here that I’d love to photograph more couples in.
Whether you’re planning a big wedding, an intimate gathering, or a just-us-two elopement, these locations are some of the most epic places you can say “I do” in Colorado.

1. Maroon Bells – Aspen, CO
Maroon Bells is one of the most iconic (and photographed) places in the entire state and for good reason. Picture this, two dramatic, snow capped peaks reflected perfectly in an alpine lake. If you want a location that will make you feel tiny in the best way possible, this is it.
Why I Love It:
- Stunning at sunrise and sunset (the light is unreal).
- Great for couples who want an adventure without an all-day hike.
- Perfect in every season, but especially in fall when the aspens turn golden.
Things to Know:
- It’s a very popular spot, so reservations and permits are required.
- The best time for photos is early morning or late evening when it’s quieter.
2. Garden of the Gods – Colorado Springs, CO
If mountain peaks aren’t your vibe, Garden of the Gods offers a completely different kind of beauty. Towering red rock formations surround you, creating such a bold, dramatic backdrop that feels like another planet.
Why I Love It:
- Easy to access, no major hiking required.
- Free to the public!
- Works beautifully for both sunrise and sunset ceremonies.

3. Sapphire Point Overlook – Dillon, CO
For couples who want epic views but don’t want to trek miles into the wilderness, Sapphire Point is one of the best options. This spot overlooks Lake Dillon and the surrounding mountains, and it’s super easy to get to.
Why I Love It:
- Small ceremony space that’s perfect for elopements and micro-weddings.
- Gorgeous views year-round.
- You can make it a full-day adventure by exploring nearby Breckenridge afterward.
4. Great Sand Dunes National Park
Yes, Colorado has sand dunes and they’re incredible. The contrast of golden sand against blue skies and distant mountains makes for some seriously unique wedding photos.
Why I Love It:
- A location that feels completely different from the typical mountain backdrop.
- Perfect for couples who want barefoot, windswept, adventurous photos.
- Stunning at sunset when the light turns golden and soft.

5. Telluride + San Juan Mountain
If you want something truly off-the-charts beautiful, Telluride is your place. The San Juan Mountains are rugged, dramatic, and some of the most picturesque in the state.
Why I Love It:
- Waterfalls, alpine lakes, wildflowers, you get it all.
- Feels more remote and private compared to some of the busier mountain towns.
- Perfect for helicopter or Jeep-access elopements if you want to get somewhere totally unique.
6. Rocky Mountain National Park – Estes Park, CO
Of course, I can’t leave out RMNP. With mountain views, hidden meadows, and alpine lakes, this park has endless spots for portraits and ceremonies.
Why I Love It:
- Tons of ceremony sites to choose from.
- Iconic Trail Ridge Road gives you above-the-treeline views.
- Incredible wildlife (think elk, moose, marmots!) for that true Colorado feel.
No matter which spot you choose, what really makes these locations special is you. Your love story, your vows, your day, that’s what turns these landscapes into something unforgettable.

If you’re dreaming about an adventure-filled wedding or elopement in one of these spots (or somewhere else completely unique), I’d love to help you bring that vision to life. We’ll find the best time of day, plan the logistics, and make sure your photos feel as epic as the place you’re standing.
KIND WORDS
“I recommend Cheyenne in a heartbeat!! She is the sweetest person ever and made us feel at ease and relaxed in front of the camera. Cheyenne is on so top of it, had so many visions that we would have never even thought of, and most of all, she leads with the kindest heart and a sense of humor. Everyone at our wedding raved about how wonderful Cheyenne was! We nearly cried seeing our sneak peek photos, they were SO beautiful. We feel so lucky to have worked with her.”
