The best season to get married in Colorado is something I get asked often. As a Colorado photographer, I’ve worked with couples in every season across the state from mountain towns to state parks to backyard weddings.
The truth is, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer to the best time of year to get married in Colorado. It really depends on what matters most to you!
Spring (March–May)
Spring in Colorado can be unpredictable. One day it’s sunny and 60°, the next day it’s snowing. Higher elevation areas still have snow on the ground well into May. Lower elevations start to bloom a bit earlier.
Pros:
- Off-season pricing at venues and vendors
- Less crowded trails and locations
- Snowy mountain backdrops with milder weather (by late spring)
Cons:
- Mud season is real (especially in mountain towns)
- Wildflowers haven’t quite popped yet
- Weather can change quickly
Spring is best For couples who want snow without extreme cold, or who want to avoid summer crowds and are flexible with weather!

Summer (June–August)
Summer is the most popular time for weddings in Colorado. The mountains are fully accessible, wildflowers are blooming, and the weather is generally warm and sunny.
Pros:
- Long days and golden sunsets
- Mountain passes and hiking trails are open
- Great for guests traveling in
Cons:
- Higher chance of afternoon thunderstorms
- National parks and popular spots are busy
- Vendor and venue prices peak in summer
Summer weddings are best for couples planning a mountaintop wedding, hiking elopement, or an outdoor ceremony.

Fall (September–November)
Fall is one of the most loved seasons here, especially mid-to-late September when the trees turn gold. The season is short, but the colors are SO worth it.
Pros:
- Stunning foliage (especially in the Rockies)
- Cooler temps without the snow
- Less crowded than summer, especially after October hits
Cons:
- Peak foliage lasts 1–2 weeks in most areas
- Some mountain locations start to close by mid-October
- Early snowstorms are possible
Fall is best for couples who want bold natural color, fewer tourists, and cooler weather for outdoor ceremonies or portraits!

Winter (December–February)
Winter weddings in Colorado can be gorgeous, but they take a bit more planning. Snowy conditions mean road closures and unpredictable travel. But if you’re all about the winter vibe, it can be a really unique experience.
Pros:
- Snow-covered mountain views
- Great for cozy indoor venues or ski town elopements
- Off-season pricing for venues (outside of holidays)
Cons:
- Weather delays and road closures
- Cold temps (especially in high elevations)
- Limited accessibility to mountain passes or hiking trails
Winter weddings are best for couples who love snow, want a ski elopement, or are planning something small and flexible.

So, What’s the Best Season?
If you want guaranteed access to the mountains and trails: go for July or August.
To those dreaming of colorful trees and crisp air: aim for mid-September.
If snow is your thing, January or February is best!
If you want fewer crowds and better rates, spring or late fall is best!

KIND WORDS
“I cannot recommend Cheyenne enough! My husband and I have done several sessions with her over the years and have always been blown away! Most recently, she shot our wedding and the photos truly took things to the next level. Cheyenne has an incredible eye and is so personable. She made us and everyone around us feel completely at ease. The way she helps with posing and makes everyone look so natural really sets her apart. She captured every detail, every emotion, and all the big and little moments so beautifully. The photos are beyond anything we could have hoped for and we will cherish them forever! I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to not only work with Cheyenne, but to have become friends with her as well. If you are looking for someone who is extremely talented, professional, and so fun to work with, Cheyenne is your girl!”
