As a wedding photographer, I’ve had the honor of capturing celebrations of all sizes, but there’s something truly special about a micro wedding. These smaller, more intimate days are full of personality, intention, and real connection. One of my recent favorites took place in Colorado: a garden party wedding with around 30 guests, full of heartfelt moments and thoughtful details.

If you’re thinking about keeping your guest list small, here are five reasons why a micro wedding might be exactly what you’re looking for!

1. You Get to Be Present With Your People

One of the biggest perks of a micro wedding? You actually get to spend time with everyone there. At the Colorado wedding I photographed, the couple laughed and mingled with their guests all evening. With fewer people, your wedding becomes a genuine experience, not just an event.

2. A More Relaxed, Less Stressful Day

A smaller guest list often means a simpler timeline, fewer logistics, and way less pressure. The garden party wedding in Colorado flowed naturally, with no stress or scrambling. Everyone was fully present sipping drinks, telling stories, and enjoying the day without a packed schedule.

3. More Room for Personal Style

Micro weddings give you the freedom to focus on the details that matter to you. This couple created a romantic garden party with vintage touches, colorful florals, and twinkle lights wrapped around the trees. The vibe was warm, inviting, and 100% them, not something that’s always possible with a huge guest count!

4. More Emotion in Your Photos

With fewer distractions, there’s more space for emotional, storytelling images. I was able to capture quiet moments, inside jokes, meaningful hugs, and everything in between. These kinds of candid, unfiltered memories are what I love most about photographing intimate weddings.

5. You Can Choose Unique Venues

Micro weddings open up a world of creative venue options. Private gardens, family homes, scenic overlooks, places that wouldn’t work for 200 guests suddenly become perfect.

Thinking About Going Small?

If you’re planning a wedding and want it to feel meaningful, relaxed, and totally “you,” a micro wedding is a beautiful way to go. And if you’re dreaming of something intimate whether it’s in a garden, on a mountain, or in your own backyard, I’d be honored to capture it.

KIND WORDS

“Cheyenne was so great to work with! We are from Missouri and originally were going to just get engagement pictures, but then realized we just wanted to elope! Cheyenne was so flexible and was so happy to help us celebrate our elopement! We were really nervous to be in front of the camera, but she brought such a calming vibe and guided us through poses, but also allowed us to be candid. She delivered the finished photos so quickly and they did not disappoint. Cheyenne also selflessly edited my Father-In-Law into some family photos after he unexpectedly passed away a few days after our elopement and was not able to be there to celebrate with us. I will cherish those photos forever! I would 1000% book with Cheyenne again. The 13 hour drive was so worth the experience we had!”
